Pretty in pink

Ta dah, one UFO less!

Pattern: Aestlight Shawl by Gudrun Johnston
Needles: US 6 - 4.0 mm
Yarn: Handdyed Ístex Loðband Einband / Icelandic Laceweight (gift from Knitting Iceland after they published my Toasty, Twisty, Tweedy cowl)
When: Started April 2012, finished September 2013
Modifications; When I picked this shawl up again after a year or so, I had almost finished the Bird's Eye Lace border. And I was to lazy to figure out once again how to do it, so I decided it was enough. I also was too lazy to do the original edging. which is really nice, btw, so I did a few rows of garter stitch, and then did a picot cast off.

Pink

- Have you seen the sky? 

- What?

- Have you seen the beautiful sky?

- You know I hate pink, Mum!

- But what if someone gave you a chocolate wrapped in pink paper?

- I'd throw away the paper and eat the chocolate. 

- What about a pink lolipop?

- I'd eat it. Quickly!

 So, obviously, these mittens are not for him. 

They're a second version of these mittens.

Tractor tee

Zaz wrote me a beautiful comment on Ravelry: "you made a tractor poetic and the fuggly sari yarn has a new side to it (....) here it is like a klee paintings touches of bright"
My husband calls it a fake.
Marguerite (who sent me the yarn) worries the sari silk might bleed. (I have changed the comment settings, Marguerite, so you should be able to comment directly on the blog, now. And I can reassure you, no bleeding after machine washing in cold water.)

Ok, a little visit, here it is, my tractor tee!
 

The pattern is Striped top from Vogue knitting/ Designer knitting Spring/summer 2011. A long list of modifications:

Different yarn with a different gauge (18 in stead of 20). So I used stitch count for size 33 to get appr. size 37. My MC was Abuelita Organic Cotton from Pickles, and the CC Namaste Sathi Fils arc-en-ciel (recycled silk), given to me by Marguerite.

Worked top down, in the round, starting with a k 2, p 2 ribbing. Raglan increases kfb twice, every 2nd round till i had enough sts, then without increases till armpits.

Omitted stripes and added a different yoke pattern, and pattern/stripe at bottom and sleeves.

Hip shaping (like the raglan increases, but every 4th round five or six times)

That’s it, I think. The pattern was nice to use as a template, might use it again.

Pink? Me?

I'm not a pink person.

But for a while I borrowed a pink shawl from my sister,

and after she got it back, I missed it.

Now I've made myself a new one:

I've been working on the shawl for a couple of years, actuallY, picked it up from time to time. The pattern is easy to remember and get back to after a pause. But the log rows were a little boring - so there were many pauses.. But with each row beeing shorter than the last - it sort of went faster and faster. And finally I have a pink shawl !! Yeah!! (The weather forecast indicates I won't need it for the next fortnight - I don't mind, really, knowing I'll get plenty of opportunities to use it later.)

I thought I had a finished object...

but alas...

it's not always wise to crochet while watching football matches....

Scrap gnomies - finished hats and pattern update

These hats are sold for football fields, they will be Christmas gifts for two small sisters.

Seminar knitting

I used to knit during classes, at school and in university. Nowadays I sometimes knit at conferences and seminars. This is the result of two days of seminar and a train trip:

It's a child version of my Scrap Gnomy , or Pointy Striped Color as Annie Modesitt called it in her book project 1000 faboulous hats. I love using left over yarn, and putting together colours. I'm quite happy with how they're turning out so far. They're going to be Christmas presents for two little sisters, I think.

I started the blue one when the pink reached the point where I wanted to change to double pointed needles. There is too much jingling with dpn's, I don't want to annoy people. And I don't want everybody's look on me when a needle falls to the floor...

There's another hat on the needles, too.

Knitting in colour - p i n k -

Judith 's challenge this time is pink. Which is not my colour, but when I had a look, I found several projects, so obviously I use more pink than orange! All of these have been given away, though. Most of them are free patterns, maybe you can get some inspiration.

Pretty pink neckwarmer

I've had this Pudorosa neckwarmer in my queue for some time. And then I found the perfect yarn: Handpainted mirasol alpaca. Beautiful colours, and soft and warm. I could have used smaller needles, to make it a little tighter around the neck, but it's pretty anyway. Maybe next time.

The pattern is from the Spanish online knitting magazine Tejemanejes. Luckily the pattern has been translated to English. I do speak Spanish, but I haven't taken the step into the Spanish knitting vocabulary yet. That might be a future challenge...
