Be prepared!

Remember the scout hat I made this winter?
I made one adult, and one child version.
The Norwegian pattern was test knitted by Anne and Judith.
I'm now happy to announce that the English pattern
has also been test knitted, by Lynn,
who also happens to have a scout boy to wear the hat.

Lillehammer hat

Remember my Lillehammer mittens?

Here's a hat to go with them.

Remember last year's Birkebeiner competition between my sister and her friend?

The hat is this year's price for the one who improves the time more,
relatively that is, so there will be calculations involved too.

The hat is worked in Rauma mitu, a wool/alpaca blend, that is soft and gives a warm fabric. It's nice to knit with.

The garter stitch brim with ear flaps is worked flat, ear flaps formed with short rows.

The rest of the hat is worked in the round.

And this hat definitely needed a pompom!

Pattern is ready for test knitting - in Norwegian. Interested, anyone?

Finally - pattern for sale: Torch man's hat - "Fakkelmannen"

Annepålandet and Torunn test knitted the first version of the pattern. They had troubles with the short rows, due to my poor explanations. I counted and recounted, but couldn't figure it out, before suddenly, one sleepless night - eureka! I understood how I had to do it. I tried it out on this hat, but I knew beforehand it was going to work.

The first two test hats also turned out a bit too big, and I was struggling with the charts, the sizing and the decreases. I was wondering - should I just leave it there, and forget about the pattern? I mean, you don't have to publish a pattern every time you make something. It's a bit obsessive, isn't it? But then I thought of all the work I had already put into the hat. And when I discovered the Testing Pool group on Ravelry, I decided to give it a go. Earlier, I have used the Free Pattern Testers group. It was okay at the time,  but the group has so many rules to obey, that I was reluctant to use it again.

But thanks to my first Norwegian testers, and then Christine and Ursula in the Testing Pool, the Torch Man's Hat - "Fakkelmannen" is now available. You can buy it here, or through Ravelry at 4.00 USD. You can see the tester's hats here, here and here.

And don't forget the Pot Holder Swap!

Mittens and places #3

Moelv is a small town close to Lillehammer. The local newspaper recently announced that they now have an official Moelv mitten!

Hamar, our neighbouring larger town south of Lillehammer also has an official mitten, Hamarvotten. (Lillehammer originally means "small Hamar")

We don't have an official mitten pattern - but here's the unofficial Lillehammer mitten pattern, now also in English!

The pattern has been test knitted by Alice and Dominique. Thanks a lot, both of you!

Test knitting

I was lucky to test knit this wonderful mitten pattern this spring.
The first mitten came off the needles in no time,
but then spring came along,
and the second has been wating.
But now mitten season is here again,
and I finally finished the pair.
I'm planning to use the leftovers
and make a matching hat -
maybe this pattern, by the same designer.

I have translated the pattern into English,
and am in need of test knitters.
Send me an e-mail if you're interested.
If you want to purchase the Norwegian pattern,
use this button (4.50 $):

This hat pattern, Stella polaris,
blogged here earlier,
has been translated too, and test knitted,
by Rodrigo and Saundra.
Thanks, both of you.
Pattern is available ($3) in both Norwegian and English,
just choose which file you want to download.
